So what the other offerings that are supposed to do what this is intending?

WebDrive

NetDrive

A little more info on NetDrive (Free) when copying from FTP:

  • It keeps forcibly closing the data connection and then restarting the connection
  • Over a Gig network, the max that can be achieved is 2MB/s
  • On local loopback (127.0.0.1) the max is 8.0 MB/s
  • It is worse with TeraCopy as it has to resynch for each aborted packet

In Summary, It's great for sending, not so for retrieval :-(

OS WebFolders

  • Thers is NO actual drive letter
  • It uses the base commands and no others
  • It has a built in delay for each command
  • Trying to play a large file (18GB) via the Explorer Web folder did not work.

Cloud Desktop - Starter Edition

Seems like the latest "Starter Edition" version has a problem with copying Large files (used the 14GB) from FTP servers. Otherwise it was really good and fast.

Does anyone have experience of the other editions ?

SFTP Net Drive - Free

Built by the same people who created "Call Back File System." Have not had a play with this, but it seems that setting up separate drives is a bit of a pain.
